“New Nollywood” as it is called depicts the New generation of the Nigerian motion picture scene and those who make up all its aspects like actors and actresses, directors and writers and all others.
The Nigerian movie and television scene has really evolved over the years and now, movies and TV shows are being made that are not only captivating our screens but also our hearts. From riveting plots to dramatic effects, New Nollywood is taking us by storm. On the 19th of June 2016 cover of the Guardian life magazine, some of those who are shaping New Nollywood were featured. Adesuwa Etomi, Olumide Oworu, Blossom Chukwujekwu and Wole Ojo grace the cover.
It was shot by insigna’s very own Kola Oshalusi
Adesuwa Etomi got her first big break as in April 2014 when she played Debbie in the award nominated movie, Knocking on Heaven’s Door.
Ever since Adesuwa has proven to be more than just “one to watch” but also a force to be reckoned with. She has stared in the movie Brave as Layo, in the season 2 of Gidi Up as Sharon, in Mtv’s Shuga as Sheila and of course we cannot forget her award winning role as Muna in the movie Falling which earned her best actress in a drama at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards.
Adesuwa has really shaped the face of the New Nollywood generation and I’m very sure that she’ll continue to keep us on our toes and she breaks barriers in not only the Nigerian movie scene but internationally too.
Olumide has literally grown on our screens, starting out as a child actor he has been featured in several TV shows including Everyday People, Stolen Waters, The Men In Her Life, The Patriot and many others. As he grew in his life and in his career he’s been cast as leading roles in TV shows like the Johnsons and Mtv’s Shuga and movies like A Soldier’s Story in which he was nominated as the best supporting actor in a drama at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards.
Blossom Chukwujekwu has not only been on in the big screen but also in our hearts for the past 7 years (since 2009) when he cast in his first feature film, Vivian Ejike’s Private storm. Since then he has continued to capture our hearts in movies and TV shows such as Flower girl which was released in 2013 and happened to be his breakout role which achieved international success, Finding mercy which was also released in 2013 and the role that got him the best supporting actor award at the 2015 Africa Magic viewer’s choice Awards, “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”. His most recent film is Ghana must go which was produced by Yvonne Okoro.
From starting out as a child actor on the show “Kidivision 101” Wole Ojo has since then made a name for himself in the Nigerian movie scene. The Amstel Box office reality TV show winner has also acted in television hits like Brave, Tinsel, Everyday People, One Love, The Child, This life and many others and of course let’s not forget one of his most memorable roles in “Maami” where he played Kashimawo.
Wole Ojo has ever since captured our screens and our hearts.
