Actress, producer, director and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe Gentry graced the cover of Guardian Life magazine yesterday, shot by insigna’s very own Kola Oshalusi.
Having an interest in acting from a very young age, Mercy initially took her passion as a hobby and was inspired by the likes of Taiwo Ajayi Lycett to take acting as her profession.
She is more dominant in the Yoruba genre of Nollywood, in which she has been acting in for more than 7 years. Her first roles in the industry were actually English speaking movies but after being cast in a Yoruba movie that ended up being very successful, the ripple effect kicked in and she found herself being cast in more and more Yoruba movies until she became a force to be reckoned with in the industry.
She ventured into producing and film making for the sole purpose of telling her own stories and being given a large enough medium for her own storytelling to be exhibited. She has produced a number of films including her latest one “victims” which will be out on DVD soon.
She loves fashion, she loves to look good and be comfortable at the same time but she also understands that at times fashion isn’t comfortable but she always looks amazing whenever she steps out.
Mercy has really made a name for herself in Nollywood, especially the Yoruba genre of Nollywood and I’m sure we’ll definitely be seeing more of her diversity and her stories which she tells through film.
