Colors and Emotion; Red.
Red is the representation of Love. It represents passion, lust, danger and desire.
Red is undoubtedly one of the most expressive colors because it’s usually used to signify dangerous zone but if you think that a joke; Google heartbreak and see the number of red oriented artworks. It’ a no play color and isn’t tossed around just for the fun of it.
Red is used to intensify the relevance of a moment, be it good or bad. For instance; if you’re going to treat your spouse to a romantic evening, a red dress to a candle lit dinner would overly set the mood right. Afterwards, an air conditioned room with a bed covered in rose petals with red scented candles would help you finish work. In dreadful situations, red is used to create emphasis on important notes and written passages.
Likewise in Photography, Red is amongst the three primary photo-colors ( Red, Green, Blue). It is a lively color that creates a warm aura in your image. Apart from it’s obvious significance, Red has the ability to give life to an image especially when its surrounded by colors such as White, Brown, Black and Grey. If making a monochrome series, a touch of red is always a welcomed idea as it immediately becomes a focal point of attention.
Using Red in photography should depend on what you are shooting. When shooting official portraits, it is best to stay off excessive red lest you deviate and create a whole different feeling in the images but when having themed photo sessions especially love-centric themed shoots, throwing in a dash red here, here and there will create the conducive atmosphere for the idea to thrive.
Red is a vital color and its importance cannot be under-emphasized but if you think otherwise, every February 14th is proof to back our assertion *winks*.
