It’s finally here and it is over. The AMVCA’s is literally the highest award platform for movies and entertainment in Africa, an event everyone looks forward to. Who goes home with what award, what films gained recognition and let’s not leave out the outfits. Wow! it is a lot to take in and we are here for it. For the 7th time since it’s inception, Insigna Media got the opportunity to document the AMVCA Awards as well as the fashion show. This years event being the eight edition took a different turn and on a much higher scale from the presence of few Hollywood stars: Sidra and Tasha Smith, Brandon Michael Hall, Grant Housely, Bayo Akinfemi and a shoutout message from Terry Crews to the whole week of celebrating the extremely talented pool of African Creatives, this years edition will not be easily forgotten.

To recap this years events, here are our top moment from AMVCA8:

The Award

Being nominated alone for AMVCA is a big deal, then winning the title is on another level. The feeling that your work and creativity is being acknowledged and celebrated cannot be underwhelming. Over the years, the AMVCA has kept expanding the nomination categories to be able to capture and give recognition to those who deserve it. These winners reactions will forever be a moment to cherish.

OLD SCHOOL MEETS NEW SCHOOL

The duo we Nigerians never knew we needed. The combination of Labaja, popular afrobeat’s musician known for his signature use of face mask and Rema, who is a self acclaimed Afrorave musician was pure fire. The duo sang popular hit records they had made and sure had the crowd on their feet cheering with glee. We would definitely need more of this in the future.

DEYEMI AS WILL SMITH

This moment was one no one saw coming. It was sure hilarious as popular actor, Deyemi Okonlawan attempted to pull a Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars on IK Osokiaduwa. IK had made a joke that seemingly provoked Deyemi and the latter attempted to fight back before he was carried away by security. Scripted? We don’t mind, we just love to have a good laugh.

HOLLYWOOD IN THE BUILDING

Everything about the AMVCA8 was different, and for the first time we welcomed the presence of a few Hollywood stars with special messages from some. Hopefully this would spark up great collaborations with the African movie industry in future. Our doors are open and we are ready to collaborate!

THE AFTER PARTY

AMVCA will not be complete without the after party. This is another top moment everyone looks forward to. Absolutely no one wants to miss this party. It’s a night of pure fun and celebration.
