Lighting 2.0
Hi there.
Creating great photos requires great lighting and sometimes, great lighting can be a tad too expensive. Getting a box of lighting or a couple speedlights so you can position the light at the right spot can be somewhat bank breaking but … there’s constantly ambient ‘sun’ light.
Most photographers never want to use sunshine because of the little control they have over it but sometimes; especially when you’re just beginning, the sun is all the lighting you can afford.
In such cases, some of this tips might come in hand
1; Look for some sort of shade. Putting your subject/model directly under the sun will create strong shadows and possibly ruin your image.
2; For indoor shoots, position your model just beside a window and shoot. If you have a glass window, slide it shut and it’ll act as a diffuser. The thing with windows is they light up one half of the face so if you have a reflector, place it opposite the window to add that extra light and if you can’t afford a reflector, a white cardboard will just do fine.
3; For perfect silhouettes, position your model against the sun and drop your exposition to the barest minimum (N.B; this is most beautiful against a sunset).
Getting the extra gear does go a long way too but until then, improvs. are what will get you there.
Cheers.
