Gels are thin sheets of colored plastic that are placed over the light to change the color of the light hitting the subject or background/backdrop of a shoot.

Gels come in different colors and sizes and are used for beauty or color correction purposes. The Tungsten gels can be use to correct the color falling on a models body especial when the surrounded environment is very blue, but most times, color gels are used creatively to create certain colors on the body of a model(s) to highlight skin or direct attention or just for the fun of it.

When using gels, it is important to be deliberate else you’d just have a color or multiple colors as the case may be everywhere with no definition or purpose and this is not good at all.

Also, using compatible colors is important. This is because using contrasting colors might ruin the symmetry of your images and quite frankly, ruin the entire image. It is crucial that colors that match or complement each other are placed together so that the end result of the image(s) is absolutely superb.

Color gels are a great way to create stunning and creative fashion portraits and when applied properly, the results always wow factored.
