Diary of an Intern Photographer.
March 14th, 2017.
It’s my second day on the job and I’ve already witnessed two shoots in the home studio. It’s a dream coming through.
Hi everyone, my name is Ufana Ishoyor and I am an intern photographer with Insigna Media Lagos. This is my diary.
2:45 pm
We’re having a shoot with the Executive Director of Polo Luxury Group Ltd.; Ms. Jennifer Obayuwana, daughter of Polo Luxury founder, Mr. John Obayuwana. Prior to the shoot, the boss warns me he’ll finish late but I stubbornly persist to accompany. Soon we leave and then it dawns on me that I’m the only assistant on this job… issoryt, I’ve used my big mouth to put myself in wahala again.
I’m literally so nervous, I could puke in my own mouth; I’ve been on the job for less than 48 hours and I’m walking into a corporate… let me rephrase… high class corporate building to assist a celebrity photographer shoot the second highest executive…”Take me Lord”.
Surprisingly, Mr. K. treats me like I’ve been on the job for months; “Ishoyor, set up the lights and put the reflective umbrella… set up the soft box alongside the grid”. I feel all shades of scared and excited. Slowly I pick pace and I’m doing stuff like it’s my 274th time on the job.
9:26 pm
As we exit the Polo Tower, I realize for the first time how tasking photography truly is. It’s not just all about saying “Stand there, Pose, Say cheese… Cheeeeseee! *shutter*”. Its having an eagle eye for creativity and detail, knowing laws of composition and having the kitty and gritty of your camera at a fingers snap. It’s about shooting and reshooting till you have your image, and if you don’t find your image… shoot again. You’re only permitted to deliver the best to client.
11:05 pm
I just arrived home and my eldest sister wants to rip me apart. She’s worried and I kinda understand but all I do is smile and say “I’m fine”, after all this is only but the start of many adventures.
Ishoyor Out.
