It’s crazy how in the shortest time, the world seems a lot more realistic than digital. 3 weeks ago, i was sitting on my father’s couch watching Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H  and today I’m at Fashion Week… Wawu.

Being at the #LFDW is an eye opener. It’s more than just a display of clothes and shoes; it’s an expression of the African culture. A fusion of leather and grade A fabrics  to tell the Nigerian story to the world.

Prior to this experience, I always thought that Fashion Week simply granted designers the opportunity to showcase their craft  and exchange ‘cloth for cash’ but now, I’ve eaten my Eden’s apple and I see clearly; It’s a story telling exercise unlike any other.

My eyes have seen and my mind has connected; the ‘Orange Culture‘ collection by Adebayo Oke-Lawal resonates deep within my soul. Designer Adebayo incorporates into his designs the story of the typical Nigerian male child, born, raised and taught that ‘true’ manliness means being devoid of emotional hurt. His designs bring to the lime light a tale untold of a culture that shuns manly emotions because seemingly ‘men are supposed to be pillars and as such shouldn’t be emotional beings’.

Saying good bye to the Red Door Gallery is a bit emotional. The fusion of Art, Culture and Clothing has been an amazing experience and I can’t wait for the next edition to see what stories the patterns and designs hold for us.
